KIEV, March 28. /TASS/. Hundreds of Kiev residents have brought flowers, toys and notes with words of sympathy to Russia’s embassy in the Ukrainian capital in commemoration of the Kemerovo fire victims.
Russian diplomats are grateful to Ukrainians for their compassion.
"Kiev residents are bringing flowers and toys, leaving memory notes and lighting candles. We thank everyone who has come to pay tribute and convey their condolences to the victims’ families and friends," the embassy’s press service said on Wednesday.
The first toys, flowers and notes appeared outside the Russian diplomatic mission in Kiev shortly after the news had broken of the tragedy in the Siberian city of Kemerovo. On Tuesday, Ukrainians were streaming to the embassy throughout the day. In the Ukrainian cities of Odessa, Lvov and Kharkov, people were coming to the Russian consulates to offer their condolences.
On March 25, a fire inside the Zimnyaya Vishnya (Winter Cherry) shopping and entertainment center in Kemerovo killed 64, including 41 children. Twenty seven bodies have been identified. More than 60 people have come to clinics for medical treatment.
Putin declared March 28 a national day of mourning. Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko and Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman offered their condolences to the Russians.
