Almost 140 foreign spies, their agents convicted in Russia in 5 years — FSB

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. A total of 137 trained intelligence officers of foreign special services and their agents have been convicted in Russia in the past five years, the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), Alexander Bortnikov, has said.

"Foreign special services are still trying to permeate all spheres of our state’s activities. Naturally, they meet firm resistance from our counter-intelligence officers," the official said in an interview with Russia’s governmental daily, Rossiiskaya Gazeta.

"From 2012 and to the present day, a total of 137 trained intelligence officers of foreign special services and their agents have been convicted," Bortnikov said. "In cooperation with other Russian state bodies, operations of 120 foreign and international non-governmental organizations, acting as instruments of foreign intelligence bodies, have been stopped. A total of 140 people were convicted as a result of measures to protect top-secret information."
