Moscow, Beijing committed to cooperation on North Korea

On July 4, Moscow and Beijing came out with a double freeze initiative calling on North Korea to stop its nuclear missile tests

MOSCOW, December 15. /TASS/. Russia and China have reiterated their commitment to close coordination of efforts over the situation in the Korean Peninsula, the Russian foreign ministry said on Friday after a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and China’s Ambassador to Moscow Li Hiu.

"The sides focused attention on the development of the situation around the Korean Peninsula," the ministry said. "The sides reiterated mutual commitment to close coordination of Russia’s and China’s efforts in order to prevent further escalation of tension in the region."

On July 4, Moscow and Beijing came out with a double freeze initiative calling on North Korea to stop its nuclear missile tests and on the United States and South Korea to suspend military drills as a step towards political process.
