US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman has met with former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev

MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev advised US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman not to repeat mistakes of the past in relations between Moscow and Washington, which brought the world to the brink of a nuclear war.

The diplomat visited the Gorbachev Foundation on Tuesday, where the book penned by Suzanne Massie titled "Trust but Verify: Reagan, Russia and Me" was presented.

"I want you to never repeat past mistakes. Our presidents had not met for six years (negotiations between Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan were held in 1985 as part of the Soviet-American summit in Geneva and were the first after a break of six years - TASS), and the situation at that time made one think that we are getting closer to a nuclear war," Gorbachev told Huntsman. The ambassador hoped that he could muster up the wisdom to accomplish this.
