Russia at UN urges to relaunch process of Israeli-Palestinian settlement
Moscow is alarmed that Washington’s step "poses a risk for the Palestinian-Israeli relations and for the entire region"
THE UNITED NATIONS, December 8. /TASS/. Russia has called to relaunch urgently a "meaningful political process" in order to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by establishing separate states for two nations, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzya said on Friday.
The UN Security Council had convened an emergency session following the US’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Moscow is alarmed that Washington’s step "poses a risk for the Palestinian-Israeli relations and for the entire region," Nebenzya said.
According to the Russian ambassador, "under the current circumstances, it is more important than ever to relaunch a meaningful political process so as to find a final and sustainable solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of a two-state decision."
Nebenzya pointed out that "in this sense the Quartet of International Mediators will remain as a unique mediation mechanism."
