Putin says Russian-Chinese relations evolve positively
"We call it a comprehensive strategic partnership," the Russian president noted
ST. PETERSBURG, June 2. /TASS/. Relations between Moscow and Beijing have been evolving "in quite a positive way," Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the heads of global news outlets in St. Petersburg.
"As you may know, our relations with China have been evolving in quite a positive way," he said. "We call it a comprehensive strategic partnership," the Russian president added.
"Indeed, our relations have developed their own unique character," Putin went on to say. "This particularly concerns our cooperation on the international stage where we always seek and find common approaches to the most complex issues and often times speak in one voice," he pointed out.
"Of course, we will continue to cooperate with China within international organizations, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)," the Russian leader stressed adding that an SCO summit would soon be held in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana.
Silk Road Economic Belt project
Moscow is ready to cooperate with Beijing in the Silk Road Economic Belt project, according to Putin.
In response to a question by First Vice President of the Xinhua news agency Zhang Sutan, Putin emphasized the need to join efforts with Beijing in relation to China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the Russian-initiated Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
"As for joining efforts in the Chinese Silk Road Economic Belt project and the EAEU, I have already said in Beijing, that we, as well as other EAEU member states, are interested in boosting ties with China, one of the largest economies in the world which has a huge market," the Russian leader noted.
He also said that cooperation in the infrastructure sphere was "priceless." "In my view, it is of global importance, both Russia and China are interested in it so we will work together," Putin said.
"Moreover, the situation has been evolving positively in the border areas, where bridges are being built, cross-border trade is developing and inter-regional cooperation between Russia and China is in full swing," Putin noted. "People visit each other, hold various cultural events and economic forums," he added.
According to the Russian president, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing has developed its own unique character.
