St. Petersburg governor assures necessary steps being taken to ensure tourist security
According to St. Petersburg’s governor, "the most important thing is to join efforts" in the fight against "this global scourge called terrorism"
ST. PETERSBURG, April 4. /TASS/. St. Petersburg’s authorities are taking all the necessary steps to ensure security of tourists, city governor Georgy Poltavchenko told reporters on Tuesday.
"Come to our city, we are taking every step to ensure security like in any other big city in the world," he said.
According to St. Petersburg’s governor, "the most important thing is to join efforts" in the fight against "this global scourge called terrorism." "So that people could have no fear while walking on the streets of their native towns or visiting foreign countries. I am sure that we will succeed," the governor concluded.
On the afternoon of April 3, an unidentified device exploded in a metro car between Tekhnologichesky Institut station and Sennaya Ploshchad stations in Russia’s city of St. Petersburg. The country’s Investigative Committee has indicated the event as a terrorist attack, however, other scenarios are also under consideration. According to the National Counterterrorism Committee, the blast killed 14 people while more than 50 were injured.
