Lavrov slams 'cynical' claim that St. Petersburg blast was 'revenge for Syria'
It is sad that these media speculations are not just fake news reports, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said
MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has castigated attempts to portray Monday’s terrorist attack in St. Petersburg as revenge against Russia for its policy on Syria as cynical and mean.
"As for some media speculations that the terrorist attack is revenge against Russia for our policy in Syria… They are cynical and mean. It is sad that these are not just fake news reports. Some officials, including Obama-era Pentagon representatives, shared similar opinions with the international community," the minister said.
"I believe it is unworthy of politicians and hope that under the current circumstances when terrorism threatens all countries without exception there will be no double standards, and politicians will demonstrate responsibility in this regard," Lavrov emphasized, adding that he expects the media to exercise full accountability in covering the events as well.
