Russia's Interior Ministry suggests Moscow and Beijing beef up cooperation in war on drugs

The Russian minister said illegal trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and banned highly-potent narcotics is among the top threats to global security

BEIJING, March 21. /TASS/. The Russian Interior Ministry has put forward a proposal to the Chinese Ministry for Public Security to step up the exchange of information on individuals involved in production and distribution of drugs and psychotropic substances, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said on Tuesday.

This offer is aimed at "preventing the creation of steady flows of drug supplies," the minister said after talks with Chinese Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun.

The Russian minister said illegal trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and banned highly-potent narcotics is among the top threats to global security.

The minister hailed the growing efficiency of law enforcement agencies in the cross-border regions between Russia and China in ferreting out and blocking drug supply channels. The Russian interior minister is currently on a visit to China.
