Moscow has been closely following the developments in South Korea and is confident that the political crisis in the country will not affect bilateral relations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said commenting the impeachment of the South Korean President Park Geun-hye.

"We have been closely following the developments in South Korea where the Constitutional Court has upheld a parliamentary vote to impeach the president," she said.

"We expect the country to overcome the political crisis and are confident that it will not affect relations between Russia and South Korea," the diplomat added.

On March 10, South Korea’s Constitutional Court upheld Park Geun-hye’s impeachment. According to the Court’s ruling, Park Geun-hye has lost immunity and should move out of the Blue House (the official residence of the South Korean head of state).

According to the law, early presidential elections in the country will be held within 60 days following the impeachment of the former president.
