BISHKEK, February 28. /TASS/. Moscow is ready to discuss a revision of the Treaty between Russia and the United States on measures for the further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms (the new START Treaty), if it receives such proposals, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said on Tuesday.

"The Treaty operates and is in force. I believe that it is necessary to work on the existing Treaty while all the other things are insinuations and conjectures. If such an idea comes up and our US colleagues are ready for talks, we’ll discuss it," the deputy defense minister said in reply to a question about whether Russia had received any proposals from the United States on the revision of the START-III Treaty.

US President Donald Trump earlier criticized the new START Treaty of 2010, promising "to start making good deals" and expand the US nuclear arsenal. In Trump’s opinion, the new START Treaty is "a one-sided deal" infringing on Washington’s interests.

The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START-III) was signed by the presidents of Russia and the United States on April 8, 2010 in Prague and entered into force on February 5, 2011 after it was ratified by Russia’s parliament and the US Congress.

The Treaty stipulates cutting deployed strategic carriers to 700 units and to 1,550 nuclear warheads on each side.
