Putin orders border facilities be reinforced in Russia’s Far East and Arctic region
The Russian president stresses "the guarding of state borders" is extremely important for ensuring the country’s security
MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered to improve border facilities in the Far Eastern region and the Arctic.
"We need to continue improving border facilities in areas where border infrastructure is not developed enough, particularly in the Far East and the Arctic region," Putin said at a board meeting of the Federal Security Service (FSB).
The president pointed out that "the guarding of state borders" was extremely important for ensuring the country’s security. "First and foremost, we need to foil any attempts by international terrorist and extremist groups to enter Russia as well as curtail any kind of smuggling - from weapons and drug trafficking to the smuggling of various bio-resources," the Russian leader added.
Putin stressed that the state would continue to strengthen the central office and territorial branches of the FSB, provide them with modern weapons and equipment as well as "provide social guaranties to the FSB officers and their family members."
