US embassy in Moscow declines to comment on reports of closing Anglo-American school
Earlier CNN reported that Russian authorities have ordered the closing of the Anglo-American School after US imposed new sanctions on December 29 over Moscow's meddling in the US election
MOSCOW, December 30. /TASS/. The US embassy has seen media reports about Russia’s authorities closing the Anglo-American School in Moscow as well as the embassy’s recreation center in Moscow’s Serebryany Bor as a response to the new US sanctions, Embassy Spokesperson Maria Olson told TASS.
However, in her words, it is the Russian side that could confirm or deny these reports.
Earlier CNN reported that "Russian authorities have ordered the closing of the Anglo-American School in Moscow after the United States imposed major new sanctions on December 29 over Moscow's meddling in the US election."
On December 29, Washington slapped new sanctions on Moscow over the alleged hacking into US political institutions. These sanctions apply to several Russian companies, the Federal Security Service and the Main Intelligence Agency of Russia’s General Staff. Besides that, the US authorities expelled 35 Russian diplomats and shut down two Russian compounds in New York and Maryland.
However, Russia has been repeatedly rejecting any involvement in the cyberattacks. Commenting on the new sanctions, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that they were an act of aggression.
