Russia's envoy: West’s interference in Ukraine's affairs triggers major crisis in Europe
According to the Russian diplomat, Kiev is only pushing with more demands but is doing nothing
VIENNA, December 15./TASS/. Western interference in Ukrainian affairs triggered chaos and devastation in the country as well as a major crisis in Europe, Russia’s OSCE envoy Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.
"It is getting increasingly evident what the interference of Western countries in Ukraine’s affairs has led to - chaos, devastation, mayhem, corruption, the use of the army and gangs of nationalists against civilians, breaking off of stable relations between fraternal countries," the diplomat noted.
He said one of the biggest crises in Europe (after NATO aggression against former Yugoslavia) was triggered in Europe, damaging greatly all Ukrainian neighbors - to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south of its borders, but first of all Ukraine itself.
Donbass dilemma
Kiev continues its policy of detaching Donbass from the rest of Ukraine in terms of humanitarian and economic ties:
"We observe Kiev’s ongoing policy of ‘cutting’ Donbass from the rest of Ukraine," he said at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council. "It implies not only breaking of humanitarian, economic and financial ties but also ideological detachment. "We see assaults on the Russian language, culture, the ‘decommunization’ saga in the worst Soviet-era traditions, glorification of accomplices of the Nazi."
He said that such policy only disunites people living in Ukraine and the sooner this policy is dropped the smoother normalization process will go.
According to the Russian diplomat, Kiev is only advancing demands but is doing nothing.
Touching on the border issue, Lukashevich stressed this problem can be solved only as provided by the Package of Measures. "Attempts to bring this topic into the fore to the prejudice of political elements of settlement are counter-productive," he underscored.
Spy hysteria
Russia sees signs of aggravation of political situation in Ukraine, which is fraught with escalation in the conflict zone in Donbass, the diplomat said:
"We observe alarming signs of aggravation of political struggle in Ukraine. The number and strength of protests is growing, crime is on the rise. Corruption scandals are growing in numbers. Spy hysteria is gaining momentum."
"Nadezhda Savchenko, whose fate was of such concern for some of our partners, has been expelled from the party she used to be number one in and is now pictures as a ‘public enemy.’ It is fraught with the escalation of the situation in the conflict zone which may trigger further shelling, destruction, casualties among civilians," Lukashevich noted.
Russia calls on "all who are interested in the stabilization of the situation in UKraine to use their influence to prevent further escalation," he underscored.
