Russian top diplomat says Trump looks 'more determined to fight terrorism than Obama'
The Russian goreign minister said determination to fight against terrorism was heard more clearly in Trump’s statements, than in Barack Obama's words
HAMBURG, December 9. /TASS/. The need for struggle against terrorism is expressed more clearly in the latest statements by US President-elect Donald Trump than in what the outgoing Barack Obama Administration has been saying and doing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference on the sidelines of a meeting of the OSCE foreign ministers in Hamburg on Friday.
"Russian-US relations depend on the personalities of those who take the highest posts in our countries and on foreign ministers," Lavrov said. "But by and large they are relations that stem from the balance of national interests."
"Apparently, everything will depend on the a future US Administration understands national interests. For now it is still in the emerging phase. I have a feeling that its approaches to implementing Trump’s fundamental goals he outlined in his election speeches are just beginning to take shape."
"But it is already clear that the determination to fight against terrorism was heard and is still heard more clearly in Donald Trump’s statements than it can be seen in the Obama Administration’s actions," Lavrov said.
