Top diplomat: Russian, Turkish presidents’ agreements "implemented in all aspects"
Moscow expects that close cooperation with Ankara on Syria will help to make a concrete contribution to implementation of the decisions approved by the world community
ALANYA /Turkey/, December 1. /TASS/. The agreements achieved by the presidents of Russia and Turkey "are being implemented in all aspects," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters on Thursday.
"Russia is guided in the practical work - I would like to underscore once again - not by somebody’s unilateral statements as they are numerous, but by the agreements reached by the presidents," Lavrov said, answering to a reporter’s question related to Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks about goals of the Turkish military operation in Syria’s north.
"I can assure you that the agreements are being implemented by both diplomatic bodies and defense and special services," he said.
"We expect that very close cooperation between Russia and Turkey on Syria will help to make a concrete contribution to implementation of the decisions approved by the world community," the Russian foreign minister said.
In Syria "the political process has made no headway," he said.
"Amid the conditions when our UN counterparts entrusted with holding inclusive intra-Syrian talks cannot fulfil the task for some reason, we cannot wait endlessly," Lavrov said. "The Syrians should themselves determine the country’s future. Russia and Turkey are doing everything possible to assist it with practical actions so that favorable conditions may be created for the inclusive dialog as is written in UN Security Council’s Resolution 2254."
Earlier this week, Erdogan said that Ankara’s operation Euphrates Shield had set a goal of toppling Syrian President Bashar Assad.
