Russia will react on basis of reciprocity to expansion of sanctions by Canada — embassy
On Monday, the Canadian government added 15 more people, including six State Duma deputies from Crimea, to the sanctions list
OTTAWA, November 29. /TASS/. The expansion of Canada’s sanctions list against Russia is an unfriendly step which will be followed by reciprocal actions, Kirill Kalinin, press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Ottawa, told TASS on Tuesday.
"We express deep disappointment with the decision of the Canadian authorities to once again expand the list of Russian officials and parliamentarians," Kalinin said. "This will definitely have a negative effect on the whole complex of Russian-Canadian relations which have started to improve lately," he added. The diplomat stressed that "the Russian side will take into consideration this unfriendly step and will react on the basis of reciprocity."
On Monday, the Canadian government added 15 more people, including six State Duma deputies from Crimea, to the sanctions list. The Canadian Foreign Ministry said that it does not recognize the legitimacy of Russian parliamentary elections held in Crimea on September 18.
