Kremlin says no decision yet whether Putin attends Fidel Castro funeral
MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. No decision has been made so far if Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to attend the funeral former Cuban President Fidel Castro, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said on Monday.
"The issue has not been settled so far," Ushakov told reporters.
On Monday, the citizens and guests of the Freedom Island will be able to pay last respects to the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, who died at the age of 90 on November 25.
Upon the decision of a special commission of the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist party and the government, Castro’s ashes will be present at the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana from 9 a.m. local time on Monday.
Fidel Castro’s body was cremated on Saturday in accordance with his wish. A nine-day mourning has been announced throughout the country.
Starting from November 30, Castro’s ashes will go on a four-day procession from Havana to the southeastern city of Santiago de Cuba.
Castro's ashes will be interred at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in the city of Santiago de Cuba, known as the cradle of the Cuban Revolution, at 7 a.m. local time on December 4. Besides, on November 28 and on December 4 two simultaneous 21-gun salutes will fire in Havana and Santiago de Cuba.
