Ahrar al-Sham, Jaysh al-Islam not put on terrorist list due to West’s position — diplomat
US, UK and France blocked Russia's initiative "to extend the UN SC anti-terrorist sanction regime to the groups Ahrar al-Sham and Jaysh al-Islam acting in Syria" on November 21, Maria Zakharova said
MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Having refused to add Ahrar al-Sham and Jaysh al-Islam to the list of terrorist organizations, the United States, the United Kingdom and France have once again demonstrated their selective approach to the problem, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
She reminded that Russia has recently came up with an initiative "to extend the United Nations Security Council anti-terrorist sanction regime to the groups Ahrar al-Sham and Jaysh al-Islam acting in Syria." But "despite information materials provided by the Russian side, which convincingly proved Ahrar al-Sham’s and Jaysh al-Islam’s links with the terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra, which is on the corresponding sanction list - and this is a reason for blacklisting - the United States, the United Kingdom and France blocked this initiative on November 21," she noted.
"I would like to tell those who are so meticulous about human rights advocacy, about rebuffing terrorism, xenophobia and all types of intolerance that Ahra al-Sham and Jaysh al-Islam have not been put on the United Nations Security Council terrorist list due to the position of the United States, the United Kingdom and France," Zakharova stressed. "Just have a look at photos of these people, I’d rather refrain from telling what they are doing, just read their slogans, calls, materials they are distributing, and you’ll be terrified. But the United States, the United Kingdom and France did not think it possible to protect you from these people."
"Once again, these countries have demonstrated their commitment to selective, self-serving approach to listing persons and organizations as terrorist," she stressed.
