Moscow accuses EU officials of inciting protests in front of Russian embassies
The Russian Foreign Ministry says British and Swedish officials should show more responsibility about their statements
MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. British and Swedish officials should show more responsibility about their statements rather than instigate protests near Russian diplomatic missions, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday in connection with acts of hooliganism against Russian diplomatic mission in some European countries.
"We took note of regular irresponsible statements against Russia over developments in Syria provoking protests in front of the Russian diplomatic missions," the ministry said. "UK Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, essentially called for this in the British parliament not so long ago. Later, similar rhetoric could be heard in remarks by Swedish Foreign Minister, Margot Wallstrom."
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that after such statements outrageous acts by protesters occurred near the Russian diplomatic missions in the UK and Sweden. "We cannot but condemn such actions dictated by a biased notion of what is going on in Syria and a distorted perception of our actions against terrorists," the ministry said.
"Such acts of hooliganism against Russian diplomatic missions going beyond civilized norms and violating the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations are inadmissible. They put diplomatic missions’ employees in danger and hinder their normal work," the ministry said. "Officials should show more responsibility about their statements, which can be perceived as direct incitement to disregard of law and vandalism."
