State Duma ratifies Russia-China counterterrorism agreement
The agreement is aimed at development of bilateral cooperation in fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism
MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. Russia’s State Duma ratified an agreement between Russia and China on cooperation in fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism, which had been presented by President Vladimir Putin.
The agreement, which the countries signed in Beijing on September 27, 2010, is aimed at development of bilateral cooperation in fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism. The document regulates use of joint measures to reveal and stop effectively actions to plot and make terrorist attacks, the explanatory note reads.
The countries will exchange information in preventing and fighting criminal activities of terrorists and extremists. This information will contain data on "illegal production, keeping and turnover of propagandistic materials, weapons, armory and explosives, on criminal groups’ use of nuclear materials, radioactive substances or sources of radioactive sources or toxic, poisonous, hazardous chemical or biological agents, on sources and channels of funding criminal organizations, on specific terms, regularities, methods and ways of their activities, as well as on persons, suspected of committing crimes in the area of terrorism, separatism and extremism - categories and numbers of identifying documents, their places of residence or whereabouts."
Along with the agreement, the countries introduce norms of support in investigation into criminal cases at the request from either side. The countries will exchange equipment and produce jointly special measures and equipment.
"The issue of fighting terrorist threat is, of course, a priority for our countries," a member of the State Duma’s international committee Sergei Zheleznyak said. "The agreement lays a legal base for bilateral counterterrorist cooperation between Russia and China.".
