Russia, Turkey to hold talks on military technical cooperation by yearend
MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. Russia and Turkey will arrange a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on military and technical cooperation before the end of the current year, the press center of Russia’s Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation said on Monday.
"By the end of the year, it is planned to organize a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on military technical cooperation," the press service said.
Neither exact date nor the venue has yet been appointed.
A chill in relations between the two countries followed Turkey’s downing a Russian bomber in Syria that was on its way back from an anti-terrorist mission on November 24. The crew managed to eject itself. One pilot was shot dead by fire opened from the ground.
The incident entailed a number of restrictions in Russia’s trade and economic relations with Turkey. Thus, a ban was imposed on charter flights to Turkish destinations and on imports of Turkish farming products. In late February, Russian president’s aide on military technical cooperation Vladimir Kozhin said that all contacts with Turkey in the sphere of military technical cooperation had been suspended.
In late June 2016, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a message to the Russian leader where he offered apologies for the downed Russian plane and expressed interest in settling the situation. In October, Putin said Russia was ready to resume military technical cooperation with Turkey.
