Kremlin urges OSCE to determine conditions for police mission in Donbass
The Kremlin spokesman says the central role in setting up preliminary conditions for the mission in Donbass belongs to the OSCE
MOSCOW, November 7./TASS/. In determining parameters of an OSCE police mission in Donbass, suggested by Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko, the key role is that of the European security agency itself, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
"Yes, it was an offer of President Poroshenko and despite a rather muted response of Putin’s colleagues from Germany and France, he, Putin, agreed with that idea, but under the understanding that the central role here belongs to the OSCE itself," Peskov said.
In reply to queries about Russia’s stance on the issue, the spokesman referred journalists to source, the words of President Putin himself.
Putin formulated the position as he spoke at the final plenary session of the Valdai international discussion club in Sochi.
"He did not deny or reject that proposal of Mister Poroshenko. It is hardly possible to discuss here any modalities or numbers without having data on possibilities, position and approach of the OSCE," Peskov said. "Such practice would be new for the OSCE, as there have been practically no such precedents," he added.
"As far as I know, the OSCE is not formulating at the moment its stance on that initiative of President Poroshenko," he said.
