Turkish General Staff chief discussed IS, Syria conflict with Russian counterpart

Chief of Russia’s General Staff Valery Gerasimov received Hulusi Akar in Moscow on November 1

ANKARA, November 2. /TASS/. The Turkish General Staff assessed as positive the talks held by its chief, Army General Hulusi Akar in Moscow on November 1, according to the General Staff’s statement obtained by TASS on Wednesday.

"The talks were held in a productive manner. The sides discussed the issues of coordinating efforts between the two countries for the earliest neutralization of the threat emanating from the Islamic State grouping [outlawed in Russia] in the region. The sides also discussed the Aleppo situation and the ways of stopping warfare in Syria," the statement says.

Chief of Russia’s General Staff Valery Gerasimov received Akar in Moscow on November 1.

"During the meeting, the sides continued discussing the issues of interaction on settling the Syrian conflict, including the normalization of the situation around the city of Aleppo," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"The sides held a sincere exchange of opinions on the situation in north Syria, an also in the area of the Syrian-Iraqi border in the context of the operation to fight the ISIL [the former name of the Islamic State terrorist organization outlawed in Russia] in the area of the city of Mosul," the statement said.
