Foreign Ministry: Two mortar shells fired on Russian embassy in Syria
Russia will do everything to bring the attackers to account
MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. Moscow will do everything in its power to bring the masterminds and perpetrators of the attack on the Russian embassy in Damascus to deserved punishment, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
"On October 28 at around 15:00 hours Moscow Standard Time (12:00 hours GMT) two mortar shells hit the compound of the Russian embassy in Damascus," it said in a press release. "Precision fire was delivered from Jobar municipality that still remains under the control of antigovernment forces."
One of the mines detonated near the main entrance of the embassy’s office building. Another mine exploded outside the embassy’s fence.
"By a lucky chance, no one was killed," the ministry said. "The embassy sustained material damage, including the four cars that were hit."
"We resolutely condemn a yet another terrorist attack on the Russian embassy," it said in a press release. "We’ll do everything on our power to bring its organizers and perpetrators to the punishment they deserve."
The ministry warned at the same time Moscow would watch very closely international reaction to this crime.
"This reaction will be a litmus test showing who among our partners rejects terrorism in practical terms and who whitewashes terrorists and connives at them in reality while pointing at convenient targets," the press release said.
"We demand compliance with the UN Security Council’s antiterrorist resolutions and an end to the replenishment of terrorists," it said. "Russia will keep up its line at persistent and uncompromising struggle with terrorists in Syria."
