Latvian authorities who terminated the license of a private Russian-language school for its representatives’ participation in the Immortal Regiment march are waging a war on historical memory, with children falling victim to it, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said on Thursday.

"The trend of putting pressure on the linguistic education for the sake of creating an ‘obedient’ society and eradicating any kind of dissent, is getting more sophisticated in Latvia," she said. "It is inadmissible that children are falling victim to Riga’s battle against historical memory, which is gaining momentum."

According to Zakharova, Moscow considers this "an outrageous episode, and it should be subject to scrutiny by the relevant international organizations and human rights groups." "This is further evidence indicating that the rights of the linguistic minorities living in that country are systematically violated," the diplomat added.
