Lawmaker: EU summit proves that Europe has got tired of anti-Russian sanctions

Russia is a European country interested in developing comprehensive and mutually beneficial relations with the European Union, a senior Russian lawmaker said

BERN, October 21. /TASS/. The European Union’s latest summit has demonstrated that Europe has got tired of the anti-Russian sanctions, a senior Russian lawmaker said on Friday.

"Today it is obvious and clear that everybody has got tired of these absolutely counter-productive restrictive measures which are harmful for Europe, European structures and European businesses," Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of Russia’s Federation Council upper parliament house, told TASS, adding that moods are growing stronger in Europe "in favor of building normal relations between Russia and the European Union."

Commenting on the statement by President of the European Council Donald Tusk that Russia is allegedly seeking to weaken the European Union, she said, "It is difficult to even comment on such things because Russia has always been part of Europe."

"Russia is a European country and we are interested in developing comprehensive and mutually beneficial relations with the European Union, but on the basis of equality," Matviyenko stressed.
