Russia, official Damascus and the UN are seeking variants to unblock the situation in Syria, a diplomat says

MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. The scheme to withdraw militants of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization from Aleppo, proposed by the UN secretary general’s special envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura, needs detailed elaboration, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

"I confirm that ways to alleviate the situation are being sought," the diplomat said. "If we approach that from the viewpoint of a simplified approach, there’s no response, but the situation should be considered from all sides."

Russia, official Damascus and the United Nations are seeking variants to unblock the situation in Syria, in particular, in Aleppo, she continued.

"It is being said that the Syrian army is involved in bombing, old people and children are being killed, period. All realize quite well that the situation looks an absolutely different way. Damascus, the UN and Russia are also seeking a possibility to unblock the situation," Zakharova said.

At a press conference in Geneva on October 6, de Mistura spoke for withdrawal of militants of Jabhat al-Nusra from the eastern part of the Syrian city of Aleppo and simultaneous termination of the military operation conducted by the country’s government.

He said no talks are conducted with al-Nusra.
