BRICS summit to focus on global economy, anti-terror fight — Kremlin aide
The summit in Goa, India, will open on October 15
MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. The BRICS summit on October 15-16 will focus on global economy as well as on fight against terrorism, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said on Thursday.
"The situation in the global economy, issues of global growth, cooperation of BRICS with other countries, climate changes, aims of sustainable development, expansion of humanitarian contacts," will be on the agenda, he said.
"Of course, in their conversation the leaders can touch upon any issue," he added. "Much attention will be paid to international agenda, issues of fight against terrorism, the situation in Syria and in other spots," Ushakov added.
He said the summit in Goa, India, will open on October 15 with an informal lunch of the five leaders. On October 16, they will meet in a narrow format, after which will meet in the format of working breakfast where plans are to discuss an expansion of contacts between people.
The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) leaders will also meet with representatives of the BRICS Business Council to discuss expansion of trade, and bringing closer the economies of the five countries as well as new projects.
Ending the program of the summit will be a BRICS outreach session for BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation), a regional grouping made of economics connected to the Bay of Bengal.
The summit is expected to approve a final declaration and a joint plan of action for the next year. Multilateral interdepartmental documents will be signed in the presence of the leaders, including a memorandum on cooperation between the New Development Bank BRICS and development banks of the BRICS member states.
