Putin stresses there is no alternative to Minsk Agreements

The Kremlin reports the president has held a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council

NOVO-OGAREVO, October 13. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday stated at a briefing with permanent members of Russia’s Security Council that there is no alternative to implementation of specific points of the Minsk Agreements to settle the crisis in Ukraine, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The president held a briefing session with permanent members of the Security Council," Peskov said.

"The situation in Syria was discussed; an exchange of views on the Ukrainian settlement also took place. It was underscored that there is no alternative to full implementation of specific points of the Minsk Agreements," he said.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming international contacts of the president on the topics of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and in the light of the upcoming visit to India.

"The current intra-Russian issues of the social-economic agenda were also touched upon," Peskov said.

The meeting involved Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Kremlin chief of staff Anton Vaino, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

Federal Security Service (FSB) chief Alexander Bortnikov, Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) chief Sergey Naryshkin, as well as the president’s special representative on environmental protection, ecology and transport Sergey Ivanov were also present.
