Moscow to continue working with Tbilisi after parliamentary elections in Georgia

The ruling Georgian Dream party gained 48,56% of the vote in the parliamentary elections held on October 8

MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Russia considers contacts with Georgia helpful for both countries and the regional stability and cooperation in the possible spheres will continue after the Georgian parliamentary elections, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told TASS.

"First, the parliamentary elections in Georgia haven’t completed yet, the second round is to be held (in 53 out of 73 one-seat constituencies). Second, we will continue to develop our relations where possible," he added. "We will maintain contacts and solve practical issues."

"We never stopped this work and I believe, it will continue after the elections," the diplomat noted.

The ruling Georgian Dream party gained 48,56% of the vote in the parliamentary elections held on October 8, while the former ruling party United National Movement received 27,12%. The Central Election Commission is expected to announce the final results before October 27.

The party winning the majority of seats in the parliament, will be granted the right to nominate its candidate for prime minister and form the cabinet.
