Moscow calls for Donbass integration into Ukraine — diplomat
A diplomat stresses Russia wants Donbass to be integrated into Ukraine on an equal basis
MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/. Russia wants Donbass to be integrated into Ukraine on an equal basis to make sure that there is no persecution or genocide of the Russian-speaking population, head of Foreign Ministry’s department of European cooperation Andrei Kelin said on Thursday.
"I want to remind you that Russia accommodated more than 1 million refugees only from the eastern part of Ukraine on its territory," the diplomat told the second Young Diplomats Forum.
The only way of fighting against migration flows is to eliminate the reason for the crisis rather than its consequences, Kelin said. "To stop the flow of refugees from eastern Ukraine we try to resolve the crisis in the country," he explained.
"We call for the integration of Donbass into Ukraine on equal conditions so that there is no persecution or genocide of the Russian-speaking population," Kelin stressed.
"People there should get legislation, a constitutional status, undergo amnesty and have both military and political settlement," he said. "This will contribute to the economic restoration and creation of favorable conditions for development of eastern Ukraine."
