Russia and Kazakhstan sign joint plan of action until 2019
Russian nuclear agency Rosatom, the Kazakh Energy Ministry and Kazatomprom signed a memorandum extending strategic cooperation in the field of nuclear fuel cycle
ASTANA, October 4. /TASS/. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev have signed the two countries’ joint plan of action for 2016-2018.
The document was signed following the results of the Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum that was held in Astana. Russian nuclear agency Rosatom, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan and Kazatomprom signed a memorandum of understanding and expansion of strategic cooperation in the field of nuclear fuel cycle. The document was signed by Director General of Russia’s civilian nuclear power corporation Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko, Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev and Askar Zhumagaliyev, the chief executive of Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom.
The sides confirmed their intentions to adhere to all earlier reached agreements of a comprehensive program on the Russian and Kazakh cooperation in the sphere of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The Russian and Kazakh sides also agreed to focus their efforts on the further development of partnership relations using the existing infrastructure of joint factories, including in the spheres of uranium mining, conversion, enrichment, fuel fabrication and the final stage of the nuclear fuel cycle.
In addition, the heads of the two states also attended the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on preservation of transboundary ecosystems of the Ural River and the protocol on amendments to the Russian-Kazakh agreement on legal regulation of activities of enterprises, institutions and organizations of railway transport.
