Putin calls to maintain Russian-German dialog
The Russian president has congratulated German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel on occasion of the German Unity Day
MOSCOW, October 3. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel on occasion of the German Unity Day celebrated on Monday.
In his telegram, the Russian leader said "the unity of Germany laid foundation for the new phase in the history of relations between the two countries marked by significant success in the development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in all areas."
The Russian president stressed that "in current uneasy international conditions it is very important to keep the positive potential of the Russian-German partnership and to continue constructive dialogue on the topical issues of bilateral relations and key issues of global politics in the interests of peoples of the two countries and the whole Europe."
Germany celebrates the 26th anniversary of the country’s reunification on Monday. The treaty on the reunification of East and West Germany after 45 years of separation was signed on August 31, 1990. The reunification took place on October 3, 1990. Since then, the German Unity Day has been marked annually as a national holiday.
