Russian Foreign Ministry says arms supplies not discussed with Libya
The ministry's spokeswoman stresses Russia strictly abides by its international commitments on Libya
MOSCOW, September 29./TASS/. Arms supplies from Russia to Libya were not discussed when Libyan emissaries visited Moscow last week, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in comments on media reports alleging the matter was brought up during their visit on September 24.
"The above issues were not discussed when Libyan envoys visited Moscow on September 24, and no messages for the Russian leadership were handed over either," she said.
"Russia strictly abides by its international commitments on Libya," the spokeswoman said, commenting on Russia’s position on arms embargo against Libya.
She said Russia is very cautious in discussing a possible lifting of arms embargo with foreign partners, being guided by interests of the process of political settlement in that country.
Some Russian media outlets have reported that the Libyan delegation allegedly handed over a message for the Russian leadership, asking Russia to start weapons supplies to Libya.
