Kremlin says US looking for pretexts not to meet its commitments on Syria
The US has failed to fulfill its mission of separating the moderate opposition from terrorists in Syria, the Kremlin has stressed
MOSCOW, September 29. /TASS/. Washington has failed to influence the situation in Syria’s Aleppo that continues to remain extraordinary, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.
"The situation (in Aleppo) is an emergency," Peskov said.
Asked about the future of the ceasefire regime in the region, Peskov reminded that it was declared and later disrupted.
"The withdrawal of Syria’s armed forces began. Under these documents, both the opposition and the Syrian army were to withdraw from the Castello road at a certain distance to later ensure the delivery of humanitarian convoys," Peskov said.
"The Syrian army began this withdrawal and at that very moment it came under strike. By the way, as you know, the strike was delivered by the United States of America by mistake. There was also a strike of (terrorists) and the massive offensive of terrorists started," he said.
The eastern part of Aleppo is now controlled by terrorists, Peskov added.
The Kremlin regrets that the West has chosen an unconstructive rhetoric against Russia:
"In general, we regret this rather unconstructive character of rhetoric coming from Washington of late," he said.
Moscow still seeks cooperation with Washington both for implementing the agreements on settlement in Syria and increasing the efficiency of the anti-terrorist fight in the country.
"Of course, Moscow hopes that the commitments undertaken by Washington will be implemented. But unfortunately now they are not being fulfilled," Peskov a
US and its obligations
Peskov believes that the United States’ inability to cope with its obligations in Syria, camouflaged by anti-Russian rhetoric, does not resolve the Syrian problem.
"True, we would not like to be witnesses to a situation where our counterparts in Washington camouflage their inability to comply with the assumed commitments by verbal attacks against our country and absolutely groundless accusations of all mortal sins against Russia. This is not right, to say the least, it disagrees with the reality," he said.
Peskov pointed out that such a mode of behavior "in no way helps to move along the path of struggle against terrorism."
Separating terrorists from opposition
Peskov has noted that the US has failed to fulfill its mission of separating the moderate opposition from terrorists in Syria.
"At the same time, unfortunately, the US has not yet fulfilled its key task of these agreements, their cornerstone, which is the separation of the so-called moderate opposition from Nusra (Jabhat al-Nusra, outlawed in Russia), in particular, and other terrorist organizations."
According to Peskov’s assessment, this is the main sticking point. Nevertheless, in his words, Moscow continues to carry out the Airspace Force operation in Syria in support of the counter-terrorist activities of the Syrian army.
"This is the main thing. The fight against terrorists continues."
He added that everybody should bear in mind "that the agreements reached by minister Lavrov and Secretary of State Kerry in line with the two countries’ presidents’ approach, do not contain any ideas on giving up the war on terror." "That means the fight against terrorist will carry on and so it continues," Peskov concluded.
