First session of newly-elected State Duma to convene on October 5
The need to convene the State Duma earlier than scheduled comes due to a large-scale work on adopting the federal budget for the next year
MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. President Vladimir Putin has signed an order on holding the first session of the newly-elected State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, the Kremlin press service said on Friday.
The session will be convened at noon on October 5, the document says.
Under Russia’s Constitution, the State Duma shall convene its first session not later than on the 30th day after its election. However, the president has the right to set an earlier date of the session.
The State Duma elections took place on September 18 in a mixed system: 225 members of parliament were elected by party tickets, while the other 225 were elected in one-seat constituencies. The Central Election Commission confirmed the results of the polls in the small hours of Friday.
The need to convene the State Duma earlier than scheduled comes due to a large-scale work on adopting the federal budget for the next year. The lower house of parliament should carry out this work within a relatively short timeframe.
