Lavrov says Russia is ready to present agreements with US on Syria to UN

Russia and the US came to terms on a package of five accords on resumption of the ceasefire in Syria as of September 9

UNITED NATIONS, September 21. /TASS/. Russia is prepared to submit the agreements on Syria it reached with the States to the United Nations, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the Middle East.

The meeting was held at the level of the heads of delegations participating in the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

"Russia remains prepared to make them (the agreements) public and to circulate them here in the UN," Lavrov said. "I’d like to stress specially these Russian-U.S. accords underline the separation of opposition units from the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nousra terrorists to ensure the ceasefire more efficaciously, to resolve humanitarian tasks and to cut short the terrorists’ striving to evade retaliation."

Russia and the U.S. came to terms on a package of five accords on resumption of the ceasefire in Syria as of September 9. The sides withheld them from publication initially but Russia spoke later for making them public.

The U.S. objected to the move, however, explaining for its position by security considerations.
