Russia’s UN envoy: Kerry distorts Moscow’s words about incident with aid convoy in Syria
Vitaly Churkin said he was disappointed with the US State Secretary's words and stated once again that Russia had provided the US with all necessary information on the attack investigation
THE UNITED NATIONS, September 21. /TASS/. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry distorted Russian statements about the incident with aid convoy near Aleppo in his speech at the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said on Wednesday.
"I felt disappointed with certain things. For example, I was disappointed that Secretary of State (John) Kerry decided to distort some of the statements that Moscow made with regard to that tragic incident with the aid convoy," he said.
"I think that, unfortunately, he decided to distort some words that should have meant we were for a thorough investigation and that we were putting the information we have on the table. It is unfair," Churkin said.
Earlier, at the UN Security Council high-level meeting on the situation in the Middle East during the 71st session of the UN General Assembly Kerry said that information provided by Russia about the September 19 attack on the aid convoy near Aleppo was contradictory.
Russia to continue probing the UN convoy attack
Russia will spread detailed information on the September 19 UN aid convoy attack near Aleppo, Vitaly Chukrin added. He assured that Moscow would continue its investigation into the shelling incident.
"The investigation continues. In fact, our militaries have given a very detailed explanation of the entire military situation in that region. We are planning to circulate their report as an official United Nations document," the Russian diplomat said adding that the Russian military had denied their links to the aid convoy shelling and had presented concrete facts to confirm that.
"Such hasty accusations, which are unconfirmed by any facts, are designed, among other things, to distract attention from a strange ‘error’ made by pilots of the US- led anti-ISIS coalition on September 17 when its planes bombed the Syrian government troops positions near Deir ez-Zor," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
U.N. Secretary-General Bam Ki-moon has condemned the aid convoy shelling and called for investigation into the incident. Earlier, he described those who stand behind the attack as cowards.
