Moscow insists on publishing agreements on Syria to assess their implementation
"We hope the US will stop shying away from publication of the documents it undersigned," Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said
BISHKEK, September 16. /TASS/. Moscow speaks for official publication of the agreements on Syria, which Russia and the US reached in Geneva on September 9, Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters here on Friday.
"We hope the US will stop shying away from publication of the documents it undersigned and the whole world will learn then about obligations of the sides under these documents and will be able to give unbiased assessments to how each side fulfills the agreements," she said.
As she commented on a statement by the US Department after a telephone conversation between State Secretary John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, she said this was not the first time that the US came up with an interpretation of a document endorsed in Geneva.
Kerry said earlier on Friday Washington would set up a center for coordination of strikes jointly with Russia only after the conditions for humanitarian access in Syria featured in the Geneva accords were fulfilled.
"In the telephone conversation with Kerry, Lavrov said unambiguously that we insist on the publication of the September 9 Geneva accords in order to prevent these frivolous or simply distorting interpretations of the adopted document," Zakharova said.
Non-compliance with the agreements on Syria covers up US reluctance to separate the opposition from the terrorists, she said.
"Unfortunately, we're getting convinced once again some quarters in Washington continue profiling Jabhat al-Nusra from a more favorable angle, otherwise it's impossible to explain the failure to fulfill what was promised," Zakharova said.
"In actual fact, implementation of the agreement is miring only because of one factor, which is the US inability to fulfill promises or, in this case, to separate the terrorist militants, including Jabhat al-Nusra, from the opposition," she said. "We speak about it all the time, both in public and at talks with Americans."
"This was exactly what the high-ranking American officials promised to do more than six months ago and not only in the course of bilateral contacts with Moscow, but also in the framework of the International Syria Support Group," she concluded.
