Kremlin sees separating moderate opposition from terrorists as main task in Syria
The Kremlin spokesman notes the ceasefire is very fragile
MOSCOW, September 14. /TASS/. The ceasefire in Syria can contribute to the settlement in the country, but the key task is drawing the line between the moderate opposition and terrorist groups, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.
"Of course, it (the ceasefire) gives hope that it will contribute to a peaceful settlement and create the necessary atmosphere for a political settlement," he said, adding that "so far the ceasefire is very fragile."
"The key task now is to wait until the line is drawn between the moderate opposition and terrorist groups," Peskov said. "This is a key task, without which further progress is hardly possible."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry on September 10 declared after thirteen hours of talks they had reached an agreement on Syria. It envisages the resumption of the cessation of hostilities regime, the disengagement of the opposition and the terrorists, the procedures for responding to ceasefire violations and delivery of humanitarian aid. The ceasefire came into force on September 12.
