Kremlin regrets ‘blatant Russophobia’ during US election campaign
The Kremlin regrets that "russophobic remarks" hamper fragile attempts to maintain successful cooperation
MOSCOW, September 14. /TASS/. The Kremlin expresses regret over the use of a "Russian card" during the election campaign in the United States in a negative way, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.
"Unfortunately, we see the continuing manifestation of such a blatant Russophobia. We can only express regret here," Peskov said.
The Kremlin sees that the "Russian card and the card of our president becomes almost a decisive one in the US electoral process," he added. "But it would be more pleasant for us if this card played such a role in a positive way."
The Kremlin spokesman has also added that Barack Obama's recent words about Russia's lacking democracy and suppressing freedom do not contribute to establishing the atmosphere of mutual confidence and trust:
"Let’s say: such a wording hardly helps the shy and very fragile attempts of establishing mutual understanding to be successful," Peskov said.
