Putin does not rule out adjustments to package of anti-terrorist bills
The Russian president believes that the law should comply with two conditions: to provide people with security and to meet interests of mobile operators
MOSCOW, September 6. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin does not rule out that adjustments can be made to the package of anti-terrorist bills (the so-called "Yarovaya Package").
The head of state finds that the law should comply with two conditions: to provide people with security and to meet interests of mobile operators.
"We need to look carefully at what is happening with the application of laws and if we all see there are solutions to achieve this task (to ensure security) without hampering the business than perhaps some adjustments should be introduced," the President said at a meeting with the United Russia party and experts.
"Of course, we should use all the technical possibilities to ensure the security of citizens - we can see what's going on in the world and I think that no one has any doubt that we must take every effort to ensure the safety of people," the President said addressing to lawmaker Irina Yarovaya, who was one of the authors of the anti-terrorist package of laws.
"However, if this can be done without disrupting the business of our major operators, of course, it is necessary to go this way," he added.
The package of anti-terrorist bills (the so-called "Yarovaya Package") provides that from July 1, 2018, telecommunications operators are obliged to store data about reception, transmission, delivery and processing of voice and text messages, images, sounds and video for three years. The "heaviest" files - the content of messages, images, sounds and video - operators must store for six months. They are obliged to provide all this information on-demand to security services.
In addition to telecommunication operators, the law also obliges Internet companies to store certain data. In particular, they will be required to store information about data transmission facts and data about users for one year.
