Putin: Syrian conflict may be settled fully by political means only
The Russian leader said Russia jointly with other counterparts managed to establish the ceasefire regime in some Syria’s regions and to begin inter-Syrian talks
HANGZHOU /China/, September 4. /TASS/. A final settlement of the conflict in Syria may be achieved by political means only, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said during an informal meeting of the BRICS leaders (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) on sidelines of the G20 summit in China on Sunday.
The Russian leader said Russia jointly with other counterparts managed to establish the ceasefire regime in some Syria’s regions and to begin inter-Syrian talks.
"Final settlement of conflicts of the kind may be possible exclusively by political means," Putin said.
The Russian president continued saying "realistic fighting threats of terrorism may be possible only in joint efforts of all involved countries.".
The activities of the Russian Aerospace Force have helped in retaining the Syrian statehood, and besides delivered a major strike on terrorists, Vladimir Putin went on saying.
Russia’s president said, the most threatening situation from the point of view of terrorism was in Syria, and thus Moscow supported a year earlier the request from official Damascus for assistance in fighting terrorist groups there.
"The actions of the Russian Aerospace Force have delivered major strikes on terrorists, their infrastructures and helped in protecting the Syrian statehood, which, in fact, is an absolutely key element," Putin said.
