Putin jokes about offering Russian ice cream gift to Chinese leader
The Russian president has found out that Russian-made ice cream is adored in China, but its exports to the country are supposedly limited
VLADIVOSTOK, September 2. /TASS/. President Vladimir Putin told Russian and foreign investors at the meeting on Friday that he was surprised to find out that the Russian-made ice cream is adored in China, but its exports to the country are supposedly limited.
A Chinese business representative attending the conference agreed that China loves Russian ice cream, but stated that the delicacy is not allowed to be supplied to the country in large volumes. Nevertheless, China’s ice cream lovers are still free to come to Russia to buy their favorite dessert there. He did not go into detail on the reasons for the ban, but called on the Russian president to help fix the problem.
"You surprised me when you revealed that there's a ban on importing Russian ice cream, as if it was some national heritage or a cultural value," Putin remarked. "That’s the first time I’ve heard about it." "Now, when I travel (to China) I will bring ice cream to President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping as a special present if it’s really that difficult to get it," Putin joked.
Putin is scheduled to visit China on Saturday and to attend the G20 summit in Hangzhou due on September 4-5.
