The several months of peace talks between the conflicting parties ended inconclusively

MOSCOW, August 15. /TASS/. The military situation in Yemen has aggravated of late and the knot of the conflict is getting ever tighter, Russia’s ambassador to Yemen, Vladimir Dedushkin, told TASS.

"The situation in Yemen is turning from bad to worse," Dedushkin said. "The coalition-supported presidential forces have been trying to storm the capital, Sana. Attempts at offensive operations are being made on several fronts. There’ve been some clashes even in Saudi Arabia’s territory. Regrettably, the military-political situation is aggravating at this stage."

"The knot of the Yemeni conflict is getting ever tighter and this is a matter of great concern," Dedushkin said. "All issues must be settled exclusively through negotiations."

At the end of July the Houthi rebels and the General People’s Congress (the party of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh) created a political council to govern Yemen. The internationally recognized government of Yemen for its part criticized that move and demanded "placing the responsibility for the failure of the talks in Kuwait on the Houthis-Saleh alliance."

The several months of peace talks between the conflicting parties in Kuwait City ended inconclusively and hostilities resumed.

The armed standoff in Yemen began in August 2014. Since March 26, 2015 Saudi Arabia has conducted a military air operation with the backing of a number of Arab states against the Houthi movement Ansar Allah. According to UN statistics, the hostilities in Yemen have left 6,400 people dead and 30,000 injured.
