Moscow does not see Washington's readiness to discuss returning Russians jailed in US
Russia is ready to engage in such dialog
MOSCOW, August 9. /TASS/. Russia has not yet seen US readiness to discuss international legal mechanisms of returning convicted Russian citizens to their home country, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and Supremacy of Law Konstantin Dolgov told Rossiya 24 TV channel on Tuesday.
"We have not seen any clear, reasonable signs of US readiness to discuss this situation, adjust their absolutely unconstructive position which led to violation of the rights of our citizens," Dolgov said.
"If US authorities agree to comprehensively consider international legal opportunities for returning our citizens home," Moscow will be ready to engage in such dialogue, he added. "We are absolutely ready for this - for professional, honest, calm, substantive conversation, in order to resolve those issues that are important for us and our citizens," the diplomat noted.
Dolgov said the statements of US officials that they do not know anything about Russia’s proposal to discuss the possibility of returning Konstantin Yaroshenko and Viktor But in the framework of the Council of Europe Convention from 1983, are bewildering. Such statement are "either misinformation or serve as evidence that there are flaws in the US foreign policy machine," he added.
