Diplomat: "Russian threat" allegations are being used in struggle for power in US
Russian Deputy Foreign Ministe said that Russia, too, might have come up with a great variety of speculations, but "this is not serious and indecent and officials should never act in this way"
MOSCOW, August 3. /TASS/. Allegations about a "Russian intervention" in the situation in the United States are being used by American policy actors in the struggle for power, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said. He was speaking on the sidelines of the forum of young diplomats at the A. M. Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund on Wednesday.
"People who bear no official responsibility for their statements but are involved in the ongoing struggle for power in the United States don’t hesitate to attach the ‘Beware Russian intervention’ label to this situation without having any grounds to do so," he said.
He said that in their struggle for power those people ignored refutations by the supreme political leadership in Moscow and turned a blind eye to reports that computer malware was getting into the systems of Russian government agencies.
"But they do not need it. They wish to use the reanimated Russian threat in the struggle for power in the United States," Ryabkov said.
"The other side of the coin is the statements by people holding official positions, including that of a US presidential information security advisor, to the effect that traces and sources of that might be found in Russia," Ryabkov said. "But one may utter speculations of any sort."
He added that Russia, too, might have come up with a great variety of speculations, but "this is not serious and indecent and officials should never act in this way."
"It is very sad US statements look so cheap that one feels no wish to comment on them. This is below the dignity of those whose business cards state their holders take official posts in the District of Columbia," Ryabkov said.
