FSB director say no data on possible Nice-type terrorist act replications in Russia
Along with it, Alexander Bortnikov gave the assurances that the system of security in Russia was functioning "twenty-four hours a day seven days a week"
St PETERSBURG, July 29. /TASS/. Director of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov said on Thursday he did not have information on the international terrorist community’s intentions to replicate in Russia a terrorist act of the type committed in Nice.
He said it connection with media reports suggesting that some newly obtained data indicated the terrorists’ plans to commit the attacks like the one in Nice in a number of Russian cities.
The media also claimed units of the FSB and the Interior Ministry had tightened up security measures in connection with the data.
"I don’t have any such information so far that would confirm intentions of this kind," Bortnikov said as he spoke to reporters upon the end of an international conference of heads of security services in St Petersburg, which had brought together more than a hundred officials from 63 countries.
Along with it, Bortnikov gave the assurances that the system of security in Russia was functioning "twenty-four hours a day seven days a week."
"We realize the full measure of responsibility lying on our shoulders and we cooperate closely with the Interior Ministry and other agencies in the Russian Federation," he said.
When he answered a question on a possibility of transfers to Russia of the scenarios of terrorist acts from other countries to Russia, Bortnikov said: "The activity of terrorists is getting decentralized now and no one can have warranties against anything."
"Still we’ve run into such situations more than once and there’s nothing new in it," he said, admitting, however, it was extremely difficult to find a specific person harboring specific plans.
"But if a person harboring intentions of the kind is linked to a terrorist grouping than there are chances to take the situation under control, of course," Bortnikov said.
Russian agencies are doing everything in their power of track down the possible attempts, he said. "Frankly speaking, there are many things we don’t say in public," he indicated.
Late night July 14, a truck moving at full speed smacked into a crowd of people on the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice when thousands of people were celebrating a national holiday there. The act claimed the lives of 84 people and left about 200 others injured.
