Kremlin calls 'absurd' accusations of hacking Clinton’s private emails
The issue is a vivid example of using and inflaming Russophobia in the US for the election purposes
MOSCOW, July 28. /TASS/. Accusing Russia of any involvement in hacking private emails of US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is absurd, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.
"We have nothing to do with hacking," Peskov said commenting on these accusations.
"As for any indirect or direct accusations of the Kremlin and Russia of playing some role in these attacks, this is totally absurd and is a vivid example of using and inflaming Russophobia in the US for the election purposes. This absurd borders on stupidity," Peskov said.
He also said Americans should deal with these hacking problems and their consequences themselves.
"This is not our problem and not our headache," he concluded.
Clinton's campaign managers said this week that Russian hackers were likely responsible for breaching the computer networks of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) earlier this year and leaking emails of top officials, including Clinton, to WikiLeaks.
They also alleged that Russian hackers were leaking DNC emails critical of Bernie Sanders, who quit the presidential race, in order to help Republican nominee Donald Trump win the election in November.
